The @dirtgirlscollective — founded by Sarah McDaniel, 29, Jaskrit Bhalla, 26, and Kieanna Jolaei, 34 — works with local farms to make composting accessible, but they also cultivate a community of independent composters. "If you grow your own produce, then your own compost is one of the most nutrient-dense things that you can add to that produce," says McDaniel. Not much happens in Balaclava, a pleasant-enough suburb of Melbourne, Australia. But every generation or so, the region births a punk band that shakes the firmament. In the mid '70s, it was Nick Cave and the Birthday Party. In 2016, it was Amy Taylor's turn. Back then, a gang of friends lived together in a modest apartment, opposite a police station and down the street from a nightclub that never closed. At any given time, you could have found Taylor, the group's then 20-year-old fateful leader, "fucking around" with friends, going out and hitting the beach in nearby St. Kilda. They all liked punk music and, less enthralled by legends and more by the scene that surrounded them, figured: "Why don't we make it ourselves?" So in one single sitting, Taylor — alongside her then flatmates Bryce Wilson, Declan Mehrtens and Calum Newton — recorded Giddy Up, a thrashing EP, and posted it on SoundCloud under their decided stage name. Last but certainly not least, we are rounding out our 2025 Playmates with Miss December, Hunny. Despite being a full-time model, Hunny seems to have her hands in everything — from Muay Thai to ceramics to studying adaptogens. Whatever she’s doing, background jazz augments it. “I’ve been really into Stan Getz lately; he’s all I’ve been listening to,” says the 22-year-old. Most of her tattoos originated from a rebellious phase in her teens, with the exception of one recent hand-poked tattoo beneath her ribs: a spiral. “We all go in spirals constantly,” she explains. “It’s not necessarily bad. Introducing Miss November 2025, Alexandria Finley. Alexandria’s home is filled with books, many leather-bound, each a memento of the place where it was purchased. “Inside each first page, I write the state or country where I found it,” she says. Having beaten stage III cervical cancer, each of these mementos is a cherished one. “I grappled with why that happened to me, but it gives me a fantastic perspective on life,” she says. “I’ve slowed down a lot and find myself so grateful for little things — that my parents are still alive, that I can walk.” Maybe it’s her love of psychology books, in particular, that has aided her perspective. “I seem to be a person who is constantly looking inward,” she says. “I intellectualize my feelings instead of feeling them.” Pre-order the Winter 2025-26 issue now via the link in bio. Ghana-born Louisa moved to a mountain village in Austria at age 4 and has since made the Alps her sanctuary, having been taught to ski, hike and swim in the region by her stepfather. Formerly a WNBA player, Kysre now works as a free agent. The two roles, she says, are not in contrast to each other: “What people label as a transition, I embody as evolution. Playmate Pride 🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇭 “My transition happened in waves; it was political, social, cultural, physical and spiritual. When I was 15, I started joining the trans pageants, which are a huge part of our culture in the Philippines. I became a prominent trans beauty queen in my country, but legally I wasn’t recognized as a woman. When I moved to the U.S. to start modeling, it was the other way around. I was legally recognized as a woman, but culturally I had to retreat into the closet. When I turned 30, I was coming to terms with the next phase of my life, and I decided that I had had enough. I was tired of living with shame and internalized transphobia. I wanted to find the biggest platform I could and tell the whole world my story. So I gave a TED Talk and opened up about my experience.
