The title track is one of Barry’s faves on Λ𝖫𝖨𝖤𝖭Λ𝖳𝖨Ø𝖭 🔥👤 BARRY ON ALIENATION: We had that as a song, lyrically and melody, completely different music a few years prior, and we always felt there’s something cool there. But musically, it was too alternative for us. We couldn’t put it on a record. It doesn’t really sound like us, but we love the melody and what the song was about. This was something we did later in the recording of this record, where we’re going, “What’s the record missing?” We tend to do a lot of shuffle [rhythms], like “Riot” or “The Good Life,” and then Neil was playing that part on a thumb thing [kalimba/thumb piano], “ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding,” and Zakk pulls up a mic and records it. Then, instantly from there, I just started playing the riff, a busy shuffle feel and we started throwing it together. Adam started singing those exact melodies and lyrics over what we were doing and we’re like, “Oh my gosh, does that ever work. That’s so perfect.” Neil sent it to Sophie Simmons, “Can you do a really neat vocal in the back?” and she was all about it.
