When life got tough, I found comfort behind the piano. Just me, the keys, and silence, a meditative escape. The pieces I created with my piano teacher, Geronimo, felt like the most honest music I’d ever made. But there was one issue: it wasn’t dance music. No beats. No drops. Just raw emotion. So I kept these songs to myself. But Carl Rogers once said, “The most personal is the most universal.” This album is built on that idea. It’s a different side of me. I’ve lived the dream of dance music for 25+ years, a wild ride. But before the clubs and festivals, there was the spark. At 14 or 15, electronic music took over my life and never let go. Artists like The Orb, Future Sound of London, Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Ben Liebrand, Klaus Schulze, Speedy J, and R&S Records didn’t just entertain me, they transported me. My dad also played a big part. After long days as a GP, he’d relax with headphones on, disappearing into music. My brother loved the guitar. So our home blended classical, rock, and electronic. We didn’t care about genres, only about emotion. There’s always been a piano around. I took lessons at 8, quit because my teacher smelled like old books, but those tiny bits of chord knowledge helped later. When I got my first house, I bought a Steinway too. In 2016 I returned to lessons, learning Chopin and Satie, finally reading sheet music. In 2020, I met Geronimo Snijtsheuvel. Every week he drove two hours to teach me. When I hadn’t practiced, I’d bring rough ideas, he helped shape them. The piano became my escape from the rules of dance music. No BPM, no grid, no expectations. Just fingers and sound. Those lessons became 15 songs, this album. In March 2025, we recorded all pieces in one take. No edits. No polish. Pure music. The most direct and honest I’ve ever made. From my heart, to the keys, to your ears. Enjoy ‘Piano’, exclusively available on @applemusic and Apple Music Classical ❤️
