In Barcelona, there are hundreds of thefts reported every day. Pickpockets often target tourists in crowded areas like Las Ramblas, the metro and popular attractions, using tricks to distract people while stealing wallets or phones. In 2023, almost half of all crimes in the city were thefts with around 100,000 cases recorded. Although violent crime is rare, visitors should always stay alert and keep their belongings secure.

In 2024, the overall crime rate dropped by nearly 5% and thefts decreased by about 6% compared to the previous year. Around 60,000 thefts were reported in the first nine months of the year, showing a small improvement. Still, crowded public places and public transport remain hotspots for pickpocketing, so caution is necessary.
Even with these issues, Barcelona is still a stunning city full of life, color and culture. Its architecture, beaches and atmosphere make it one of Europe’s most unforgettable destinations. With a bit of awareness, visitors can explore safely and enjoy everything it has to offer. 🫶
