En 2001, le Hang® de PANArt a lancé un mouvement mondial.
Des centaines de créateurs ont ensuite commencé à développer les handpans et ont fait naître une communauté vibrante et libre.
Mais en 2020, cette liberté a été menacée :
PANArt a soudainement affirmé que tous les handpans violaient leurs droits d’auteur et a engagé des poursuites à travers l’Europe.
Des ateliers ont été menacés, des instruments saisis.
Pour défendre notre art, Handpan Community United (HCU) s’est formé.
Depuis 5 ans, nous résistons en justice, un combat coûteux, intense, essentiel, pour que le handpan reste libre.
Les prochaines audiences en Suisse pourraient décider de son avenir.

the handpan may become illegal, but we can still prevent this to happen.
for over five years, a legal battle has been unfolding that could decide the future of our instrument. the company that created the original hang® claims copyright over the handpan’s basic shape - its dome, layout, and even its circular form.
if they succeed, makers around the world could lose the right to build or sell handpans entirely.
we tried to find a peaceful and respectful solution with the other party - through open dialogue and mutual understanding. unfortunately, those efforts were not successful, leaving us no choice but to continue this fight in court to save the handpan as we know it.
after years of hearings, research and over €1.1 million in legal costs, the final decision is approaching.
we created a crowdfunding to protect the freedom of the handpan. every contribution helps us continue the legal fight, cover essential costs and keep this instrument - and the creativity it inspires - alive for generations to come.
this is bigger than an instrument. it’s about protecting creativity, connection, and the sound that heals.
